Keadaan Sosial Budaya Di Awal Kemerdekaan
Kondisi sosial pada masa ini banyak dipengaruhi oleh sisa-sisa penjajahan. Hal ini terjadi dikarenakan selama berabad-abad kita dijajah oleh bangsa absurd sehingga budaya feodal antara majikan dan pekerja terasa begitu kental. Ditambah lagi kebijakan kolonial Belanda yang memanjakan etnis-etnis dan agama tertentu menyerupai Ambon, Manado, Madura dan Jawa sehingga menyebabkan bom waktu dalam badan Republik.
The social conditiou at this period was much influenced by colonization remnants. This matter happened because for centuries we were colonized by foreign nation so that the feudal culture between workers and employer felt so thick. Besides the policy of the Dutch colonial to fondle certain ethnics and religion as Ambon, Manado, Madura and Java so that brought upon time bomb in the Republic body.
Finally, it generated the spirit of hating inter-etchnic and religion so that it was easy to be pitted against as colonial politics of Devide et Impera. The attitude of tribe pride was fertilized luxuriantly by the colonial govern-ment so that it formed the spirit of egocentric. The noblesse still main-tained their identity as high-bred and debased people faction. This attitude was continued planted until Indonesia had reached its independence. It was even difficult to omit because it had adhered in their heart.
Pada akhirnya, menyebabkan semangat membenci antaretnis dan agama sehingga simpel diadu domba menyerupai politik kolonial Devide et Impera. Sikap pujian terhadap suku pun dipupuk dengan rindang oleh pemerintah kolonial sehingga membentuk semangat egosentris. Kaum aristokrat masih mempertahankan jati dirinya sebagai ningrat dan merendahkan golongan rakyat. Sikap ini terus tertanam hingga Indonesia sudah mencapai kemerdekaannya. Bahkan susah dihilangkan alasannya ialah sudah menempel dalam diri mereka.
The early days of the clutter independence was known as the gird epoch.The word "gird" was taken from the word of people in almost all Indonesia regions who yelled gird-gird.when seeing the Dutch arrival. In another word, the people were so alert, so that the matter which smelt colonist became archenemy. This situation was described clearly by men of letters as Idrus, Mochtar Lubis, Chairil Anwar, and the other. Idrus portrayed it in his short story collection which entitled From Ave Maria to another Road to Rome about the condition of Surabaya citizen who were so antipathy to the Dutch.
Masa awal kemerdekan yang kacau lebih dikenal dengan nama Zaman Bersiap. Kata bersiap ini diambil dari perkataan rakyat di hampir seluruh wilayah Indonesia yang berteriak siap-siap saat melihat kehadiran Belanda. melaluiataubersamaini kata lain, rakyat begitu siaga, sehingga hal yang berbau penjajah menjadi musuh utama. Keadaan ini digambarkan secara terang oleh para sastrawan menyerupai Idrus, Mochtar Lubis, Chairil Anwar, dan lainnya. Idrus melukiskan dalani kumpulan cerpennya yang berjudul Dari Ave Maria ke Jalan Lain ke Roma wacana keadaan masyarakat Surabaya yang begitu antipati terhadap Belanda.

Ketika ada seorang wan ita yang menggunakan aksesoris yang tidak sama (memakai baju merah, kebaya putih, dan slop biru), maka dicurigai sebagai biro diam-diam Belanda. Belum lagi di Jakarta dan Sumatra Timur terjadi pembunuhan terhadap orang-orang yang dianggap sebagai kaki tangan Belandallepang, baik itu rakyat etnis keturunan atau pegawanegeri pemerintah.
